Our Household Pets
Not every cat in our home is part of the breeding program — some are simply beloved companions who fill our days with joy, laughter, and love. Many of these wonderful cats have rescue stories, each one finding their way into our hearts and home in their own special way. They remind us daily why we do what we do — through their purrs, quirks, and playful personalities, they bring warmth and meaning to our lives. Every one of them holds a treasured place in the Ri Dearg Koons family.
Muggles
Lil Girl
Buddy’s sister, also with a tipped ear, was found at the end of the year sitting in the sun, crying to get warm. Now 14 years old, she is a calm, affectionate presence in the home, carrying the gentle wisdom of her years.
Crookie
Crookie aka Crookie Monster has a mischievous smirk painted on her face and a story as unique as her personality. Rescued in September 2023 at Home Depot, she was barely 1 lb at 5–6 months old and had special needs, including PICA. Over two years, she’s stabilized beautifully, now weighing 8.5 lbs. Her tail was broken in four places, giving her an unforgettable crooked look. Crookie has become a celebrity at the clinic, charming everyone she meets.
ChiChi
ChiChi our longhaired Tortie has been an indoor kitty since 2012, rescued from neighborhood roaming. A feisty little speed demon, she’s quick to box if provoked but a love bug in laps. She bursts with energy during playtime, then quickly decides she’s done, making her a spirited yet sweet companion.
Sissy Britches
Sissy Britches bounced into my arms, 15 years ago as a tiny, energetic kitten, rescued from a neighbor’s yard. The smallest of the girls, she has held her own among the older cats and remains lively and spirited, a true survivor with a heart full of affection.
The Boys
Uncle Tiggee
Found as a 3–4 week old kitten by a neighbor on November 6, 2017, Uncle Tiggee grew up alongside Gingee. He’s a lifelong companion and a gentle soul, full of personality and loyalty.
Buddy
Buddy aka Buddy Buddy or Da Da arrived during the 2018 Houston floods, flopping onto my front porch covered in fire ants. A TNR with a tipped ear, he has lived inside ever since. He nearly lost his life to a urinary blockage in 2019, but his resilient spirit shines through.
Tucker
Rescued in 2023 under the hood of a car, Tucker’s first days were full of adventure. His mother left him, trusting he’d be safe, and he immediately showed his clever and spirited nature. Now a major sweetheart, he even talks in his sleep, bringing charm and intelligence to every interaction.
